WORKSHOP PRESENTATION
ANATOMY OF STRUCTURES
MARCH 12.05.2021
BA2 course, Techonlogy module
On 12.05.2021, the final presentation of the 2nd year undergraduate student projects within the workshop "Anatomy of Structures" took place at MARCH. The theme of the workshop was the study of lightweight structures as one of the priority areas contributing to the transition of the construction industry towards sustainable development. The course covered historical examples and theoretical background of lightweight structures, the creation of physical and digital prototypes and - as a result - the design, calculation and production of a full-scale didactic model illustrating one of the principles at a scale of 1:1.

Mark Hakobyan, curator of the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, and Dmitry Kozlov, researcher at NIITAG, were invited as guests.

The materials and technologies currently used in construction account for 50% of the world's resource consumption, 40% of carbon dioxide emissions and 50% of waste. Finding solutions to reduce the use of materials in building structures supports the construction industry's transition towards sustainability.
One of the main approaches to realising this goal is the use of lightweight structures.
This is the Anatomy of Structures course in the Technology module of the second year of the Bachelor's degree at MARCH.

The course included the study of historical examples and the theoretical basis of lightweight construction, the creation of physical and numerical prototypes and - as a result - the design, calculation and production of a full-scale didactic model illustrating one of the principles at 1:1 scale.
